I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays for the end of 2024.
2024 had been astoundingly challenging from personal and professional perspectives, but I am grateful to so many friends, family, and my colleagues in the lab including Jia-Hui Yang, James Anderson, Crystal Sigulinsky, Rebecca Pfeiffer, Matt Berardy, and new this year, Eric Kunz. We are engaged in some tremendously exciting work going forward and I am so pleased that I get to work with these people. I am grateful to others in my institution who help make our jobs easier including Sydney Gee and Jeanne Retz. And I am unspeakably grateful to those organizations and individuals who have funded our work including the American taxpayer who fund the National Institutes of Health and the National Eye Institute. Research to Prevent Blindness has been a long time supporter of our work and I am particularly grateful to Gabe Newell for his support that has been critical for work in neurodegeneration models that we think will be important for diseases like Alzheimer’s.
We are engaged in some of the most exciting research to understand how the retina is wired together, and how that wiring breaks in retinal degeneration with applications to other diseases. And it lays the foundation for understanding biologically inspired computing
My love to you all this holiday season. We at Chez Jones are working to be the best human beings we can for each other and for those around us, and we encourage you to do the same. Act locally and be the best people you can for yourselves and for those around you.
