I flew out of SLC on a cold morning to PITT to give a talk, visit with some friends and some other stuff…  It’s been a while since I visited Pittsburgh with my last visit there in 2017 to give a talk at CMU with Marcel Bruchez (RIP).

I went for a walk through the new SLC airport which is quite nice, complete with dinosaurs and they’ve even rescued the old mosaic tile floor from the original SLC airport that I remember as a kid.  I remember standing in the middle of that on the SLC dot, wondering where else in the world I could go.

I was delighted to discover that the T-rex in the Pitt airport is still there making a rather nice brace of theropods on both ends of the trip.

And while Jeremy Berg @jeremyberg.bsky.social and I have known each other via social media for years, this was the first time that we got a chance to visit in person. Thank you Jeremy for picking me up at the airport on a crazy snowy evening. I owe you.

The Pitt Ophthalmology department has some wonderful art on display including an interactive light panel in the patient entry way titled “Murmurations” by Susan Narduli about synesthesia.

It was a whirlwind trip that stayed cold and snowy the entire time. But I am thankful to my hosts for the time and the effort that went into the visit.
