A week ago I flew out to Los Angeles to attend the Ryan Initiative for Macular Research meeting.  It was the 2nd time I’ve attended with my first meeting being back in 2019.

As usual it was a great meeting where I learn so much, and I am delighted to say that the ice cream machine has returned.  Lots of tracks are at the meeting, and the track I was assigned to was the use of AI in drug development for ophthalmological applications.  It was good to catch up with friends and colleagues from all over the country and meet new people.

I also had the chance to meet up with colleagues who recently moved to UC Irvine and tour their new labs.  And before flying out, I even got to meet up with my friend Seamus Blackley @seamus.bsky.social who let me sit in Richard Feynman‘s van at his chocolate laboratory and sample some of his works that are going to Chef José Andrés @chefjoseandres.bsky.social.  Delicious I tell you.  Pure, essential chocolate.

Below are some snapshots of the meeting (and one of the chocolate).
