I took the opportunity to explore some of downtown Pittsburgh by bicycle, biking up the Allegheny River on one side, around the point of the Confluence, and down the Monongahela River on the other side before biking back downtown. There are some great bike paths around the city, including some incredible single track in Frick Park that I am looking forward to exploring.
This was the first time this year that I’ve actually had a moment that was not filled with chores, or duties or tasks related to moving or work to actually do some aimless exploring with no agenda. It was short lived though as the next little while is going to be brutal busy with a ton of additional things to do including registering cars, selling the Airstream, travel for meetings in Prague and Tvärminne, a trip to USMC Quantico, a trip to NYC, a trip to the Bay Area, and more coming before the end of the year including a trip to Austria.
The next couple of weeks need to be filled with work on manuscripts and talks, as well as still trying to finalize setting up of servers, major microscope installations and transgenic colonies to be moved and coordinated.
2025 has been brutal by any stretch of the imagination, and it’s only 2/3rds done. I am exhausted both emotionally and physically.
