The last car in the stable, the 911 is now a Pennsylvania car, having received Pennsylvania tags and has had its state inspection done at Deutsche Rennsport.  I’m a bit bummed to lose the cool black Utah license plate, but I could put it off no longer. And it feels good to give my tax dollars to Pennsylvania, rather than Utah to be honest as it is important for me to feel proud of the places I associate with.

The 911 was supposed to be in guards red for the University of Utah colors, but given their very poor treatment of my laboratory and the absolute weaponized incompetence of the abysmally poor IT leadership there, my allegiances to that place have fallen.  I’ll have more to say about all of that at some point in the future when I get a moment to spend on things not immediately pressing.  This whole past year and a half have been furiously busy, trying to take care of <waves arms> all of the things.

That said, while the larger institution has lost my loyalty, I feel strongly about supporting my former department the Moran Eye Center, and have been working with the new chair to help rebuild the department. I have deep loyalty to that department and the leadership there.  So, the first step in my support was accomplished with the hiring of a new Research Director and Vice Chair, Kristen Kwan @blockintheback.bsky.social of who I am a huge fan.  And now it looks like the Moran Eye Center is hiring new positions to replace those that it lost which is a very good thing to see.  I’ll be looking for good talent to direct there over the next little while.
